Sign on convict built brick barrel drain outside the Port Macquarie Historic Court House

Summary edit

Description
English: The sign reads:

Convict build rick barrel drain

Running under Clarence Street in this location is a 900mm diameter brick barrel drain, built by convicts between 1830 - 1841. The barrel drain is intact and still operational today. This drain section was part of a network of drains built by convicts in this period. To see what such a drain looks like, there is a visual display and associated interpretive signage in the glasshouse forecourt, about 90 metres west of this site.
