English: Sir Herbert Ingram Statue of Sir Herbert Ingram by Alexander Munro unveiled in 1862
He was born at Swineshead near Boston in 1811 and achieved financial success selling a laxative called 'Parr's life pills' which enabled him to found The Illustrated London News in 1842. He served as MP for Boston from 1856 until his untimely death in 1860 when he drowned in Lake Michigan following a collision between paddle steamer Lady Elgin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Elgin_(steamship) and a schooner.
