Summary edit
DescriptionSir William Robert Kennedy.jpg |
English: Rear-Admiral William Robert Kennedy first saw service in the Russian war, throughout which he served with the Black Sea Fleet – at the naval bombardment of Sebastopol, in the trenches with the Naval Brigade, and at the bombardment of Kinburn. After that came three years constant fighting in the China war, which added the China medal and three clasps for Fatshan, Canton and Taku to his Russian war and Turkish medals. He was promoted first to commander and then to captain for the performance of special services, and for saving a bluejacket’s life at sea he was awarded the Humane Society’s silver medal. In addition, Admiral Kennedy on several occasions has received the approval and thanks of the Admiralty and the Foreign Office, and of various Foreign Governments. From 1887 to 1889 he was senior office on the South-East Coast of America, and from 1892 to 1894 he Commanded-in-Chief in the East Indies. The Rear-Admiral, who has been forty-five years on the Active list, is widely known as a successful sportsman with both rod and gun. Navy & Army Illustrated. April 17th 1896 |
