ing laws of the Egyptian Government,the country is full of elephants ; I saw about twohundred in one herd, and constantly encounteredfresh spoors. The subject race in this district are the Abarambos,a tribe which must have been in this country forcenturies, but which like the Pambias, Seres, andAkares, is being absorbed by the Asandes. Theirweapons, household and agricultural implements,houses, and mode of hunting are practically identicalwith those of the Pambias. Although they denied allrelationship with the latter, I feel sure there is someconnection between the two tribes, for their respectivelanguages contain many similar expressions. Evenhere, however, the natives spoke the Asande languagemore frequently than their own tongue, and in time theAbarambo language, like that of the Pambias and theAkares, will be a thing of the past.
