editDescriptionSite of Stroud Brewery - geograph.org.uk - 1052893.jpg |
English: Site of Stroud Brewery This green area by the Thames & Severn Canal commemorates the site of Stroud Brewery. The brewery, home of Stroud Ales, dated back to 1760 when it was run as Watts, Hallewell & Co. In 1958 it merged with Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries Ltd and became part of West Country Breweries. When they subsequently became part of the Whitbread empire the brewery was closed and the site served as a distribution depot until 1969. The buildings were finally demolished in 1970. |
