Summary edit

Description
English: Site of battle of Newburn Ford The site of the battle of Newburn Ford.

In 1640 the Scottish Army defeated the English army at this point and occupied the City of Newcastle upon Tyne for 1 year. King Charles was forced to go to Parliament to ask for £200,000 to pay the ransom for the city. After the ransom was paid the Scots left.

Musket balls are still being found in the area and a small exhibition can be seen in the ranger's station when it is open. Station only opens when a ranger is on site.
