Maritime Cultural Heritage Slerek Ship

Summary edit

Description
English: The Slerek ship, with all its uniqueness, is the backbone of fishermen along the southern coast of Java. However, what makes it even more special is the harmony within the couple. A "husband" and "wife" ship, as they are called by local people. Sailing together, the two of them bring wisdom and blessings on the tireless waves. In shipping dynamics, the roles of each ship are divided harmoniously. The "husband's" ship became a base for the sea captain who piloted it. At the top there is a chair for the captain, a sea captain who leads with courage and wisdom. Meanwhile, the "wife" ship, with a fatter and sturdier shape, provided support for its crew of around 30 people. The price of a pair of Slerek boats made by Tasikmadu craftsmen, Watulimo District, Trenggalek Regency, East Java is valued at up to IDR 1 billion. However, for fishermen, this figure is not judged purely by material things. The Slerek ship is an inseparable part of their identity and livelihood. More than just a fishing tool, this ship brings hope and a future to fishing families on the coast. In the story of their journey, togetherness, trust and sincerity in sailing the vast sea are engraved. The Slerek ship, in all its uniqueness and complexity, remains an invaluable keeper of tradition. And behind the rough waves, they remain together, keeping their "husband and wife" agreement, sailing the seas and life with one goal: to bring home an abundant catch for a better life.
