Description

c/n 763 (for WZ767) Built 1952 The true identity of this primary training glider appears to be in question. The museum website lists it as WZ747, while the UK Serial Resource Centre (www.ukserials.com/) lists WZ767 as being at this location and does not list WZ747 as being an actual Grasshopper serial. To add further mystery, the main wing mounting is clearly marked as ‘772’ which could either be WZ772 (last noted preserved at RAF Halton) or c/n 772 which would be serial No WZ776 which was struck off charge in 1958. Personally, I’m going for WZ767! Whatever its identity is, the dismantled airframe is stored behind the row of helicopters in the main hangar at the North East Land, Sea & Air Museums (NELSAM), Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, UK.
