Summary edit

Description
English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 21 August 2021, shows a dense cloud of smoke approaching the west coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The smoke generated by the disastrous fires raging in California has travelled thousands of kilometres in just a few days and, as shown in this image, on 21 August, it had reached the coast of Portugal and Galicia (Spain). According to the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) forecasts, in the coming days the smoke will continue to travel eastwards and is expected to reach Greece between 23 and 24 August. Data from the Copernicus services provide air quality forecasts globally, which are updated every four hours.
