DescriptionSmyril a wooden rowboat from Vágur in the Faroe Islands.JPG |
English: This is a wooden rowboat from Vágur, Suðuroy, Faroe Islands. Sámal Hansen, boat builder built it in 2003. The boat belongs to Vágs Kappróðrarfelag (The Rowing Club of Vágur). It has the same name as the ferry, which sails on the route Suðuroy - Tórshavn. Smyril is the Faroese word for the bird Merlin. This is a so-called 6-mannafar. 6 people are rowing the boat and one is steering to rowing competitions, just like the 5-mannafør. In 8-mannafør 8 people are rowing and in 10-mannafør 10 people are rowing. The competitions are split into boys and girl, men and women. The larger boats, the 8 and 10-mannafør is only for men. Children are also rowing in the 5-mannafør boats.
