DescriptionSoldiers prepare for Beyond the Horizon 2013 130212-A-PD481-002.jpg |
English: Sgt. 1st Class Donald Smith, New Hampshire National Guard, (driver) backs up his truck as Sgt. Travis Chase, NHNG, prepares to connect a trailer in preparation for load out in Concord, N.H., Feb. 12. The NHNG received construction material for three schools and four latrines to be constructed by six Army National Guard units in El Salvador. The construction material was purchased from NuForm, a Canadian-based company, and transported to the State Military Reservation in Concord, N.H. Soldiers are inventorying the material and loading it into 20-foot containers to be delivered to El Salvador. The material sent to the schools will provide hundreds of young children in the Ahuachapán and Sonsonate departments in El Salvador running water, flushing toilets and classrooms. Beyond the Horizon is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored, U.S. Army South-planned and led annual humanitarian and civic assistance exercise. The exercise provides construction and medical assistance to partner nations throughout the Central and South America and Caribbean region. The exercise generally takes place in rural, underprivileged areas and is a major component of the U.S. military’s regional engagement efforts and it affords a unique opportunity to train U.S. service members alongside partner nation personnel, while providing needed services to communities throughout the region. |
