| Description |
English: Following an agreement reached between the Commonwealth War Grave Commission (CGWC) and the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraeberfuersorge, a decision was taken not to transfer the remains again from Souda Bay to the Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof Maleme (German cemetery in Maleme). The two German civilians, Carl Wagner and Johann Troyer, were buried in Souda Bay Cemetry as a result of a mistake made by WGC staff. After details of their nationality were clarified, their mortal remains were left in the British soldiers’ cemetery.
Deutsch: Auf dem Soldatenfriedhof befinden sich zudem irrtümlicherweise auch zwei deutsche Gräber. Nach einer Vereinbarung der CWGC mit dem Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge wurde entschieden, die Überreste der beiden deutschen Zivilisten Carl Wagner und Johann Troyer nicht wieder von Souda Bay zum Deutschen Soldatenfriedhof Maleme zu überführen. |
