South Australian Railways locomotive 909 with last scheduled Adelaide-Port Pirie broad gauge passenger train to terminate in Ellen Street, Port Pirie, on 22 July 1967

Summary edit

Description
English: The last scheduled Adelaide–Port Pirie broad gauge passenger train to terminate in Ellen Street, Port Pirie, South Australia, on 22 July 1967. A new station at Mary Elie Street ended passenger train operation in the town's main street: 30 years of broad-gauge trains and, concurrently and before than, 82 years of narrow-gauge. On the left is one of the two narrow-gauge tracks on which passenger trains terminated (the other being a component of the dual-gauge rails visible on the right) and freight trains passed to the smelters and wharfs a further 400 metres behind the photographer. The locomotive is a 900 class diesel-electric; the two air-conditioned cars and combined guard and baggage car had recently been built for this service.
