One feature of the play of the Columbia team is well worthmentioning, and that is the absence of roughness. Columbiaswork during the season gave the lie to the oft-repeated sayingthat to be a winner you must play dirty ball. The Cadets at West Point had a banner year, putting outwhat was probably the Armys best basket ball team. The Cadetslost but one game all season and that to Swarthmore, by onepoint, after forty minutes of extra play. Victories were scoredover Yale, Pennsylvania, Brown, Trinity and others. WhileWest Point made a splendid record and possessed a finelybalanced team, the fact that the Army boys .had the advantageof playing every game on their own court must not be over-looked when championship noses are counted. It was the opening game of the season, playedearly in December, and perhaps if the teams had met later inthe season the Middies would have reversed the decision andcome out with an unbroken record. As it was, they made avery creditable showing. Rochester University made a splendid record, playing a longschedule and meeting hard teams. The Rochester team wasvery well balanced and put up a clean, hard game. Swarth-more had very much the same kind of a team, although theLittle Quakers possibly had more veterans on the squad thanany other team.
