Description

There are no more famous WW2 fighters than the Spitfire and the Messerschmitt 109. This classic combination is seen getting airborne from the grass runway to join in the 'Balbo' which is the finale of every Legends display. The '109' is actually a Spanish built Hispano HA-1112MIL Buchon, c/n 67, which saw Spanish AF service as 'C.4K-31'. In the late 1960's she was one of several Buchons to be involved in the making of the 'Battle of Britain' film. For this she was allocated the civil registration 'G-AWHE' which she still operates with today. She is cared for by ARCo at Duxford, but is nominally based at Humberside airport. The Spitfire is MkIX 'MH434' and is probably the most well known example of the type in the UK. She wears genuine 222sqn markings but has worn many schemes over the years as she has appeared in many film and TV programmes. Flying with the civil registration 'G-ASJV', she has been Duxford based for many years now, and was well known at airshows as the favourite mount of the late father & son combination of Ray and Mark Hannah, both sadly missed. She has the c/n CBAF.IX.522. 2013 Flying Legends, Duxford.
