Caption from the museum's website: "Dei ritratti ufficiali di Dorotea e di Francesco esistono delle repliche, anche in formato differente, come i due ovali conservati presso il Museo Civico di Piacenza con l’attribuzione al pittore piacentino Pietro Antonio Avanzini (Pronti). A differenza del nostro, nel ritratto piacentino Dorotea tiene vezzosamente un ventaglio nella mano sinistra.

Le peculiarità stilistiche, la resa pittorica delle vivaci pennellate farebbero assegnare il dipinto allo Spolverini, che potrebbe aver eseguito il ritratto su un prototipo del Mulinaretto."
