Deutsch:

English:
The tents were presumably pitched by migrant workers from Eastern Europe seeking shelter under the bridge.

The present day Röntgenbrücke in Berlin-Charlottenburg replaces a steel suspension bridge demolished by the Wehrmacht during the siege on Berlin at the end of World War II. The first structure at this site was a wooden construction intended to transport gas from the Charlottenburg gas works on the North Bank of the Spree River to the South. This first structure also possessed a walkway for pedestrians. A larger steal bridge was built between 1906 and 1908.

In 1960 a stressed concrete bridge was put in place to replace the former bridge that had been destroyed. The city council of Berlin commissioned the engineering firm Jagels to refurbish the structure in the early 1990's.[2]
