Description
English: At Jambukeshwara, the legend has it that the Jambuka tree grew from out of the head of 'Jambu' munivara (sage) where he sat for penace worshipping Hindu god Shiva. Hence the name - Jambukeshwara. There is still a tree at the sanctorum of temple which the locals believe is thousands of years old. Known to be built in 1st Century B.C. and later extended in 13th century A.D, the temple has a marvelous architecture. There are several mantapas (or 'mandapams' in local tongue) like these, including one that has a thousand pillars.
