Description
Français : art islamique au Louvre - département des arts de l'islam - salle A - Espace 25C - Stèle funéraire - 10e siècle et 1472 - Arabie Saoudite, La Mecque - Basalte, décor sculpté sur basalte. Le cartel indique Sur le revers de cette stèle, une épitaphe fut gravée au 10e siècle en écriture angulaire. Remployée en 1472, sa face présente, en caractères cursifs, l’épitaphe d’un personnage issu d’une lignée de grands marchands et résidant à La Mecque, où il est vraisemblablement décédé. Ce type de stèle en très faible relief, sculpté dans un bloc épais de basalte grossièrement équarri, est typique de la péninsule arabique. Numéro d'inventaire : MAO 1224
