Description
Deutsch: St. Johannes Evangelist Kirche Bad Westernkotten
Informationstafel am Turm: 1699 errichtet, 26m hoch, ist der Turm das einzige erhaltene Bauteil der 1976 abgerissenenalten Renaissancekirche. Barockes rundbogiges Portal mit Pfeilereinfassung. Die Inschrift lautet: Zu Ehren des hl. Evangelisten Johannes, des Kirchenpatrons, haben die Westernkötter diese Kirche in Demut errichtet. Das Chronistikon weist wie die Maueranker auf das Baujahr 1699 hin. Darüber in einer Muschel das in Sandstein gehauene Bild des Kirchenpatrons. Der Schlußstein zeigt einen Engelskopf und das Ortswappen, ein Sälzer- oder Pfannenhaken. Im Inneren der Marienkapelle ist eine wertvolle Pietà von 1780 erhalten. Die Fenster, 1979 von dem Essener Künstler Nikolaus Bette gestaltet, zeigen: Mariä Verkündigung, Mariä Heimsuche, die Geburt Jesu und die Verehrung Jesu und seiner Mutter durch die Heiligen Drei Könige. Der Turm ist als Baudenkmal in die Denkmalliste der Stadt Erwitte eingetragen.
