Summary edit
DescriptionSt. Nicholas Rectory Building.jpg | 135 East 2nd Street between First Avenue and Avenue A in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was the rectory of the Church of St. Nicholas. The parish was founded in 1833, the first Roman Catholic ministry to the German community in Manhattan, and the Gothic Revival church was built in 1848. The rectory, also Gothic Revival, was built in 1867. It has now been converted to apartments. The church itself, which sat to the right (west) of the rectory, was sold in 1960, and demolished. The site is now a parking lot. (Sources: From Abyssinian to Zion (2004), AIA Guide to NYC (4th ed.), [1]) |
