Description |
Landfill, looking east across western edge of Tract 42. While removing all solid waste from cell B, NOAA's contractor Tetra Tech EM and their subcontractor Kelly-Ryan exposed the drums shown. Tetra Tech EM then had their subcontractor Bering Sea Eccotech exhume the remaining drums from this dune, then haul and place the drums to a storage pad at Tract 42 lined with 10-mil thick plastic. The drums were later placed in shipping containers and transported off island for eventual disposal. Landfill cell B was converted into a new solid waste facility by the City of St. Paul.
