| Description |
English: St. Peter's Church, Aberford Road, Stanley The foundation stone was laid in 1822 and the church opened on 6th September, 1824. In February, 1911, the pitch pine roof caught fire and the church interior was destroyed. The church reopened in July, 1913. In recent years the building has deteriorated and is now unsafe. The red notices warn people to keep away from the unsafe structure. There are plans to redevelop the building as housing and this has stirred up some local disapproval. Inevitably there are signs of vandalism in the form of smashed windows and broken headstones. The building is Grade II listed. |
