| Description |
English: The Narva Triumphal Arch commemorates the victories of Russian armies in the war against Napoleon. It was built at the gate which opened to the road from the west at the time. A temporary arch of wood and plaster was erected in 1815, for the return of the armies. A permanent arch was built in the early 1830s, and dedicated on the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Kulm.
The inscription directly over the arch says, "By order of Alexander I." At top left and right are battles - Kulm, Leipzig, Fere-Champenois, and Paris. In particular, the arch recognized Guards regiments, which are listed on the lower part. |
