IN THE MAIN COURT OF "ASIA" ON THE PIKE.

The principal architectural features of "Mysterious Asia" on the Pike was a partial copy of the Taj Mahal (Persian, Crown of Mahal), India, built by Shah Jehan as a burial place for his favorite wife who died in 1629. It is one of the most beautiful structures in the world, took 21 years to build and its cost is variously given as between #9,000,000 and $60,000,000. The building is octagonal, with sides 130 feet long and 70 feet hight, and is surmounted by a dome which rises to the height of 120 feet above the roof, and is flanked by slender minarets 133 feet high. A number of other quaint structures from Ceylon, Persia, and Burmah completed the strange setting of the most realistic representation of Oriental life shown here. Artists from Lascar plied their trade here by the side of brass workers from Benares, and elephants and dromedaries with their gay trappings gave a charming touch to the picture.
