GRAND STAIRWAY OF CASCADE GARDENS

This picture reproduces the view from a point near the northeast angle of the waterways. It shows the grand stairway of the Cascade Gardens. In the middle ground are seen the water columns of the fountains playing in the basin and beyond them the other half of the grand stairway, and in the background the German House, a reproduction of the Charlottenburg Schloss near Berlin, occupying a commanding position on a hill. In this building, which housed a fashionable restaurant, were exhibited some rare art treasures and samples of interior decorations sent over by the German Emperor. Behind the pavilion seen in the picture, which formed part and parcel of the group of buildings at the Cascade Gardens, the trees of Forest Park are visible.
