Summary edit

Description
English: Colston Bassett: St Mary. The N aisle was demolished in the 18th century and the arcade filled in. This shot shows the original Norman circular piers and scalloped capitals and the Gibbsian windows in the new work. The masonry is a mixture of wolds lias (the unusually thin courses) and freestone and rust-coloured ironstone from the escarpment a few miles east of here.
