Summary edit

Description
English: St Matthias, coat of arms Ceiling boss of the arms used by the East India Company up until 1709.
"Between two gold and blue heraldic “sea-lions” is a blue shield showing three gold sailing ships. Across the top of the shield is a gold band with two red roses. Between the roses is a four-part box showing the lilies of France and the gold lions of England."

The ships are no longer painted gold but the correct version can be seen here http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/features/trading/world5.html#.

The church was once known as East India chapel and the many local mariners are buried in the churchyard.
