Description
Nederlands: Stadhuis van de stad Mechelen, provincie Antwerpen, België. Voormalige lakenhal (rechter gedeelte op de foto), gotiek XIVe eeuw met ingebouwde belforttoren. Men neemt aan dat de oudere lakenhal uit de XIIIe eeuw aan de achterzijde van de huidige stond. Met de bouw - gestart in 1526 - van het gedeelte links op de foto, op de de plaats van de noordelijke vleugel van het complex, had men de bedoeling een paleis ter beschikking te stellen voor de Grote Raad (dit parlement was reeds in 1473/1474 in Mechelen gevestigd). Echter halverwege de tweede bouwlaag werden de werken stopgezet en de Raad bleef vergaderen in het Schepenhuis. Pas in de periode 1900 - 1911 werd dit noordelijk gedeelte voltooid in neogotische stijl. Zie ook : [1]
