English: Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, Gothersley, Staffordshire The canal, engineered by James Brindley, was opened in 1772 at a cost of over £100,000. It is 46 miles long, joins the River Severn at Stourport with the Trent and Mersey Canal at Great Haywood, had 104 numbered bridges, and has 45 locks, including the staircase at Botterham.
