| Description |
English: Stalagmite in Crag Cave, Co. Kerry. This is a limestone cave which was discovered by cave divers in 1983, and is thought to be over a million years old. This stalagmite is a speleothem which was formed when acidic rainwater dissolves the cave ceiling. Over time, this reaction leads to an accumulation of precipitates, and in this case a large stalagmite when these piled up on the floor of the cave was formed, over many years. |
