Stamp of Spain; 1935; definitive stamp of the series "Famous Personalities "; stamp motive shows a side portrait of Gumersindo de Azcárate (1840-1917) with view to right. (= Spanish philosopher, jurist, politician, full name: "Gumersindo de Azcárate and Menéndez" from Léon); He studied Law in Oviedo and Madrid and won the Chair of Comparative Legislation at the Central University of Madrid.; With the restoration of the monarchy in Spain by Cánovas del Castillo in 1875, he was expelled from the university, along with Nicolás Salmerón and Francisco Giner de los Ríos, for his progressive ideas, which were in direct conflict with the postulates of the ultra-Catholic minister of promotion Manuel Orovio.; Therefore, but not only, he was in 1912 one of the co-founders of the Spanish "Reformist Republican Party".; He was time of his live a strong opponent against a centraliism and a privatisation of non-essential governmental functions.; He was deputate of Léon in the Spanish parliament.; Beside of this all, he studuied intensively models of parliamentarism and decentralized governance.; stamp postmarked
