Description

Surcharge stamp of the Nazi-German "Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren" (= Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia); 1943; stamp of the issue "Stamps for the German Winter Aid" (= Germanː "Winter Relief Fund" = WHW); 1942/1943; stamp with surcharge for the benefit of the WHW; The depicted stamp is showing a portrait of the King Johann der Blinde (German name, Czech: "Jan Lucemburský", French: "Jean de Luxemboug" or "Jean l’Aveugle", Luxmbuurgian: "Jang de Blannen", 1296-1346). He was the son of Emperor Henry VII of the Holy Roman Rich of German Nation (and Margarete von Brabant) and father of the later Emperor Charles IV of the Holy Roman Rich of German Nation. And was also since 131o King of Bohemia and since 1313 Count of Luxembourg as well as titular king of Poland. He was a brighting knight figure of the mediaval time and has the status as National Hero in Czechland and Luxembourg. The additional name "...the Blind" became he because of the lost of his eyesight around of 1339/1340 during a crusading in Lithuania. Also was he since 1337 Allied of King Philip VI of France during the 100-years-War. This thanked King Johann for his faith with the title "Gouverneur de Languedoc", an office which was hold really by King Johann in 1338-1340.; The Nazi-protectorate "Bohemia and Moravia" existed 1939-1945 from until to as part of homeland of the German Reich.; From this time also is originated the depicted stamp.; Reasonable for the stamps of the protectorate was in each case the "Postal Supervision" (German: "Postaufsicht") of the German Empire.; Currency until to was 1 Koruna (German: "Krone") = 100 Haléřů (German: "Heller").; mint stamp; below marginal piece of a sheet
