English: Standing stone at site of chambered cairn This stone is in a gently-sloping field that gives a view of the River Clyde to the south-west; the stone marks the site of a chambered cairn (an ancient stone-built burial site which had a burial chamber inside). This grave was probably constructed in the latter part of the Stone Age. When the site was excavated in 1954, fifty quartz pebbles were found, as well as a polished stone axe-head, which is now in a museum. |
