Summary edit

Description
English: Stanley Ferry road bridge. Stanley Ferry was originally a Roman Road crossing point, but when the River Calder was made navigable, a ferry came into being, hence the name. The ferry was replaced by a wooden toll bridge in 1879, mainly so a water pipe could be carried across the river to supply Altofts. This bridge became unsafe, and was replaced by the present structure in 1971. 957517
