Description
English: Cortege for fallen American airmen at Bundaberg War Cemetery 5 July 1948.

This funeral was held 5 July 1948 in Bundaberg. It was for 6 servicemen who died in an accident when the American Army Douglas transport plane crashed enroute from Rockhampton to Brisbane on 21 November 1943. The American crew were buried at the Bundaberg War Cemetery.The wreckage of the plane had only been found after the war on 21 June 1948 in a gully on Magpie Station, Yarrol, 35 miles from Monto. The 13 dead in the Monto crash included six Americans, six Australians and an Englishman flying with the RAAF.The American pilot was 1st Lt. Victor N. Gibson; co-pilot 2nd Lt.Michael Reitman; aerial engineer, S/Sgt. Everett L. Ahmann; Cpl. John F. Guigo (or Guigno), radio operator.

The American passengers were Technician 5th Grade Albert E. Peglow (from Bay County) and T/Sgt. T.G. Cucciaro. (Information taken from Bundaberg Genealogical Association Inc.,They Rest in Peace 1939-1945 Vol 2.).
