English: Investigator tree, Queensland Museum
In November 1803, while Matthew Flinders' ship Investigator was anchored at Sweers Island, a crew member carved the name Investigator on the trunk of a tree. Other ships that visited the island during the next eighty years, including the Beagle in 1841, recorded their visits in the same manner on the trunk of the tree. in 1887 the tree was blown down during a cyclone, and soon after was procured for the Queensland Museum, Brisbane.
