English: Rathdonnell House at Auchenflower, Brisbane, 1931.
Rathdonnell House at Auchenflower was built in 1863 for Mr. Randall Macdonnell, a Scottish immigrant and Under Secretary for Education. The name is one of a family home in the old country and means 'Donnell's Hill'. The original brick home had a tall sloping roof which was covered in slates with projecting eaves and a dormer window. The home was recently modernised by the Thomson family who added a Georgian revival facade with an extensive second storey and gabled corner rooms. [Information taken from: The Queenslander, 8 October 1931, p.35.] Caption on photograph: Rathdonnell from the garden, as it was before being reconstructed recently. |
