DescriptionStatue base of Kyniska (close up of inscription), Museum of the Olympic Games in Antiquity, Ancient Olympia.jpg |
English: This stone is a statue base from ancient Olympia that is now housed in the Museum of the Olympic Games in Antiquity in Ancient Olympia, Greece. Inscribed on the top are four lines of verse in Ancient Greek; they are the epigram in honour of the victory of Kyniska of Sparta in the four-horse chariot race of 396 BCE. Kyniska was the first woman to claim a victory at the ancient Olympic Games. |
