Summary edit

Description
English: Postcard of Wenatchee's first permanent school building, commenced in late 1893 and completed in May of 1894 at the corner of Chelan Avenue and Kittitas Street on land donated by J.M. Corbett. As reported in the Northwest Journal of Education at the time, F.A. Martin was the original architect and William Peacock of Mount Vernon was the builder. Before this building classes were held in various commercial buildings downtown. It housed all grades until the construction of the Whitman School on the north end in 1903, after which it was renamed the Stevens School and doubled in size. Demolished long ago, the site is currently occupied by the loading dock and a parking lot behind city hall.
