Summary edit

Description
English: Stoke Wood from Humber Lane Red Gutter, the track that the fleeing Yorkist army used to make a vain attempted to reach the River Trent in 1487, cuts through Stoke Wood just beyond the righthand corner of this field. After the Battle of Stoke Field the defeated Yorkist army attempted to flee over the River Trent. Overtaken by the victorious Lancastrian army of Henry VII the soldiers where cut down as they came through Stoke Wood. There was such a stream of blood flowing down track to the Trent, which follows the line of the horizon in this photograph, that it has been known as Red Gutter ever since.
