Summary edit

Description
English: A discarded stone railway sleeper in the undergrowth adjacent to the Hart-Haswell Walkway near Monk Hesleden, County Durham. Here the Walkway follows the route of the Hartlepool Dock & Railway Co. line over Hesleden Bank, originally a rope-worked incline. The 1836 incline was replaced by more gently-graded single-track deviation lines (running either side of it) in 1874 to enable locomotive working and it is likely that it was at this point that the original stone sleepers were discarded.
