Ferrando, theyounger, scrambled under the Cids benchwith such speed that he burst his doublet andtore his mantle; while Diego whined, I shallnever see Carrion again! : and, running toa door which opened down into a courtyard,he jumped, and rolled over among the leesfrom a wine-press there, and was coveredwith them from head to foot. Both of themspoiled their clothes, which was quite punish-ment enough for two young men so vain oftheir appearance. With the other occupantsof the room, the first thought was of theCids safety, and they all wrapped theircloaks about them and stood around the seat
