English: The figure shows the trajectories of motion for charged particles in a magnetic field of the Earth. Figure obtained by solving a system of differential equations offered by Carl Størmer in 1907. The system is solved for particles with slightly different initial positions. Størmer used his theory to describe the nature of Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). Source: E. Hairer, Nørsett S., Wanner G., Solving ordinary differential equations. Nonstiff problems. Українська: На малюнку зображено траєкторії заряджених частинок, що рухаються у магнітному полі Землі. Малюнок отримано за допомогою рішення системи дифереціальних рівнянь, яку було запропоновано Карлом Штермером у 1907р. Система вирішується для частинок з трохи різними початковими положеннями. Штермер використовував свою теорію для опису природи Північного сяйва. Джерело: E. Hairer, Nørsett S., Wanner G., Solving ordinary differential equations. Nonstiff problems. Springer, 2008, стор.465.
