Description
Deutsch: Das Strassburger Denkmal von Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi (1834–1904) steht in Basel auf dem Centralbahnplatz beim Bahnhof Basel SBB und erinnert an den Deutsch-Französischen Krieg. Das von Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi 1895 geschaffene Denkmal wurde vom französischen Baron Hervé de Gruyer gestiftet, als Dank für die Schweizer Hilfe für die Bewohner des im Deutsch-Französischen Krieg schwer beschossenen Strassburg. Der Schutzgeist Strassburgs übergibt die als Frau personifizierte Stadt (Mitte) der Obhut Helvetias, der Allegorie der Schweiz. Das weinende Kind steht für die Leiden der Zivilbevölkerung.
