English: Stunted holly bush on the edge of Pig Bush, New Forest. This knee-high holly shrub has been prevented from growing to a more typical height by the constant browsing of commoners' ponies - during the winter holly is one of the most energy-rich food sources for large herbivores in the Forest. The grazing has had the effect of shaping this bush into a low cone, a kind of natural topiary. |
