Summary edit

Description
Deutsch: Sturmabteilung (SA) Uniform: Breecheshosen, Reit- bzw. Stiefelhosen.

English: Uniform item of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazi Party's paramilitary stormtroopers until the fall of Nazi Germany in 1945: Calf-length riding breeches.

The Sturmabteilung (SA) was the Nazi Party's original paramilitary wing. It played a significant role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. Its primary purposes were providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies; disrupting the meetings of opposing parties; fighting against the paramilitary units of the opposing parties; and intimidating Romani, trade unionists, and especially Jews. The SA were colloquially called Brownshirts (Braunhemden) because of the colour of their uniform's shirts, similar to Benito Mussolini's blackshirts.

Object from a collection consisting of 3 SA uniforms and a "Winterhilfe" collections canister acquired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington, D.C. in 1997. No restrictions on access or use.
