Summary edit
DescriptionSublimation At Hyak WA 2.JPG |
English: Example of water sublimation occuring as a result of sun striking ice on powerline poles along the Iron Horse State Park Trail in Hyak, Washington, United States.
The sublimation in this photo is observed as fog rising from the powerline poles. Upon closer observation ice is evident as a thin shiny layer on an otherwise dark colored powerline pole. The time was 11:03AM and temperature was just above freezing. When the sun is at a higher angle in the sky such as the case in this photo, it travels through less atmosphere and has a greater energy transmission to the ice. With enough energy imparted to the ice (a solid state of matter), in sublimation the ice will skip the liquid state and transform directly to the gaseous state. |
