| Description |
The Sundial on top of the 53 meter high Parnidis Dune near Nida in Neringa, Lithuania, was built in 1995. This is an ideal place for this kind of sundial as an absolute mathematical horizon opens up from the Dune; it is possible to observe the Sun rising from the Lagoon and setting into the sea. There is an obelisk in the centre of the square, decorated with the symbols from the traditional festivals and phonological events from the rune calendars. The obelisk, the height of which was reaching 12 meters, was broken down by the Anatoliy hurricane in 1999. The Sundial was designed by architect Ričardas Krištapavičius, sculptor Klaudijus Pudimas and Professor Dr Libertas Klimka. |
