I took this a couple of nights ago at Pott's Point Preserve in Harpswell, ME. That long dark streak above the trees is not a cloud but is smoke. A very short time before taking it I heard a loud explosion and very shortly after that I noticed the quite heavy cloud of smoke passing in front of the sky. A day later heard a report on the radio that the owner of a 34 foot commercial boat was performing some maintenance and something set off an explosion and set the boat on fire. He was picked up by a passerby with 2nd degree burns. The boat burned to the water line and sank in Casco Bay. The location of this mishap was to the left of this photo near Chebeague Island, one of the larger island in this area. If you click on the map you can see this island in relation to Pott's Point. |
